| The First few moment of the life of an infant are critical as the infant is making an abrupt transition from the mother's uterus to the extra uterine environment. Most often this transition occurs smoothly .However 1-3% of babies may be depressed at birth. The way in which a depressed infant is cared for in the first few moments of life has a bearing on the immediate outcome in terms of survival versus death and in long terms outcone in terms of the quality of life. |
